DEBENDRA NATH SARMA MEMORIAL 46th All Assam Inter District (Under 19 ) FIDE Rating Chess Championship 2023


 

27TH AUGUST 2023, SOUTH POINT SCHOOL GUWAHATI

The 46th edition of All Assam Inter District (Under 19 ) FIDE Rating Chess Championship 2023 in memory of Late Debendra Nath Sarma was held   at South Point School Barsapara from 25th to 27th August 2023. Altogether 86 players including 37 FIDE rated players from Kamrup Metro ,Kamrup,  Jorhat,  Dibrugarh Sonitpur, Darrang, Morigaon, Nalbari and Nagaon district participated in this three day event. The tournament has been organized by All Assam Chess Association and supported by Assam Chess Club, Chess Kingdom Chess Academy, South Point Chess Academy and hosted by South Point School Barsapara Guwahati.

Altogether 7 rounds under swiss league system were played in this tournament from which the top 4 player in the Boys and Girls category has been selected to participate in the National Junior Chess Championship 2023 to be held from 20th to 28th September at Ahmedabad, Gujarat. 

The Tournament was conducted by International Arbiter Biswajit Bharadwaj as the Chief Arbiter while Homen Chandra Rabha is the Deputy Chief Arbiter and Puja Dhar is the  Deputy Arbiter. Nandan Buragohain is the Tournament Director of the event.

The tournament was inaugurated by Krishnanjan Chanda, Principal South Point School in the presence of Kandarpa Kalita, President, Rajib Dhar, Secretary, Madhab Sarma Treasurer of All Assam Chess Association along with host of other officials and guests.


In the Under-19 Boys category, the top prize was clinched by Mr. Mrinmoy Rajkhowa from Kamrup Metro, followed by Mr. Abinash P Gogoi from Dibrugarh in second place. The third and fourth places were secured by Mr. Subham Bhattacharjee from Guwahati and Mr. Nalinakhya Kashyap from Guwahati, respectively.




In the Under-19 Girls category, Ms. Tanisha A R Som from Jorhat emerged as the champion, displaying exceptional skill and determination. Ms. Sushmita Bhowmik from Kamrup secured the second position, while Ms. Hridika Das from Kamrup Metro and Ms. Urja Hazarika from Kamrup Metro claimed the third and fourth spots, respectively.



Dignitaries gracing the closing ceremony included Dr Tridib Ranjan Sarma (Chief Guest), Krishnanjan Chanda (Principal South Point School), Rajib Dhar( Secretary) All Assam Chess Association, Dr Siben Dutta, (Chairman), Dr Devajit Sarma (Member) Guwahati Chess Association (ad-hoc), and Avishek Chakravarty, (Secretary) Guwahati Chess Association (ad-hoc).
